On March 18th from 12.00 till 15.00 the Ethnographic open-air museum of Latvia will celebrate the Spring equinox - Lielā diena. Everyone is awaited - both big and small to live through the Lielā diena traditions and awakening of the nature. The Livonian Istitute of the University of Latvia in cooperation with the Latvian National Commision for UNESCO and the Latvian National Centre for Culture has announced 2023 to be the year of the liivi heritage. That's why by celebrating Spring equinox, this year we will highlight the old liivi ritual traditions of spring, which will be led by the Folklore friends set "Skandinieki".

During the celebration prepare for honoring the Sun, the Mother of Earth and the Mother of Water, preparing twigs of life, waking birds, performing swing decorating rituals, dyeing eggs, battling with eggs and creative acctivities for childern, games and acctivities. Enjoy a meal at Priede wayside pub or in open-air next to "Pūnīte". Of course there will be Easter songs, Valmiera ethno kokle's band ILGÕ will allow you to enjoy the sounds of spring and the Riga Danči club will inicite cheerful dances.
