Work on dowry chest cleaning and conservation has begun

30.07.2014.

Restorers at The Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia have begun an extensive work on dowry chest cleaning, conservation and restoration, so that would conclude in 2016 on the biggest dowry chest exposition in Latvia. The museum currently has a quite impressive dowry chest collection – around 200 units. Most of them already before transportation to museum have been in bad condition both from usage perspective and storage conditions. Also in the museum repository because of high humidity the condition of dowry chests have only worsened, specially painting layer. It is required more time and effort to clean and make all preservation works for damaged dowry chests.

It is delight, that with the preproject Nr.EEZLV04 / INP / 2013/4 „Ostas noliktavas restaurācija Latvijas Etnogrāfiskajā brīvdabas muzejā” (Restoration of the Harbor Warehouse in The Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia) project implementation within the EEA Financial Mechanism Norwegian Financial Mechanism program “Conservation and Revitalization of Cultural and Natural heritage” we will restore approximately 100 chests, paying a lot of time to disinfection, disinfestation and partial preservation.
