Contemporary crafts fair 2023 at September 2nd and 3rd02.09.2023 — 03.09.202310:00 — 17:00
“Contemporary crafts fair 2023” will take place on September 2nd and 3rd from 9.00 AM till 5.00 PM in the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia. Also, this year the visitors will be able to discover the most relevant tendencies in Latvian craftsmanship and purchase good-looking, useful, and from natural materials made, jewelry, clothes, and homemade food. In addition to the market there’ll be an interesting culture program, a special theatre play and creative workshops for children.
There are more than 350 craftsmen and food home-producers applied. That will be the 2nd biggest market after the Annual fair of Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia, which traditionally happens at beginning of June.
Contemporary crafts fair is becoming a stable tradition of the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia, where it’s possible to see talent and creativity of craftsmen, which on the basis of craftsmanship knowledge and skills has found and creates modern solutions. Latvian craftsmen, who work with widest spectrum of methods and materials, are invited to take part. In their designs they have combined their skills, development of technology and contemporary design elements. Goods must be handmade and of high quality. They must combine the beautiful and useful: artistic independence and craftsmanship skills. The goods represented at the market must be a mirror to the contemporary demand of our society for unique goods and they must create the unique taste of the visitors and must offer alternatives to mass production.
Food-producers and caterers in the Contemporary crafts fair have to include contemporary and creative variations of traditional themes of Latvian kitchen, by offering fruits, berries, vegetables and showcase modern possibilities to process, prepare and serve them diversely, tasty and healthy and preserve them for winter.
Meanwhile in the Lake meadow on the stage monoplay of Edgars Lipors Koklītes ceļojums will be performed, for adults – market stories and songs together with actors Imants Strads and Elīna Vāne will be in the same place. But on September 3rd kokle-player Kārlis Rudra Jirgens, Folklore group “Laiksne” and musician Juris Kaukulis will perform on the same stage. In the Livonian homestead creative workshops for children will happen both days and clay workshop in guidance of potter Mārtiņš Kabucis.
